The spiritual journey is not always easy. Sometimes we aren't sure where to go next. Things happen in our life that leave us confused. We want to hear from God and pursue his calling in our lives, but may not know the next steps to get there.
God is always present, and always at work in our lives. From catalytic moments, to everyday life, God speaks to us and shapes us. If we pay attention, we begin to recognize the Divine presence, and grow in a dynamic relationship with God.
To make sense of God's activity in your life, sometimes all it takes is making space to listen and look intently.
As a Spiritual Director & Formation Coach, I'll join you in your journey and hold space with you as you seek to understand where you are, where God is leading you, and offer you guidance to take the next steps.
I welcome any and all seekers. I fully embrace the unique identities, narratives, and lived experiences of each of my directees. This includes people of all faith traditions and cultural backgrounds. In particular, I have a deep and tender place in my heart for journeying with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and people of color) and LGBTQ+ folks. I believe God is radically loving and offers radical belonging.
Working with a Spiritual Director is very personal - I'd be happy to talk with you over the phone or Zoom so I can answer any questions you have. If we decide to work together, we will then set up our first appointment.

Larissa helped me through a season of waiting on God. Through spiritual direction, I learned how to ground my identity in God, connect with him, and make my spirituality my own. I am so much more secure in who I am, and more aware of God's voice speaking to me."
Larissa brings wisdom, humility, gentleness, and grace into our sessions together, which creates a perfect context for God to work. It makes all the difference to have someone like Larissa standing beside you approaching God and listening with you amidst all the other noise and voices."
I was at some major personal crossroads in my life, and spiritual direction with Larissa helped me hear from God in the midst of making those decisions. It helped me to listen to my own desires, as well as God's whispers of love and blessing.
I love creating space for people to encounter and experience God, and do that in a variety of ways.
In addition to my work as a spiritual director and formation coach, I co-lead a movement of missional communities and creative expressions of church on Oahu with my husband, Steve.
I'm also a licensed real estate agent at Century 21 Island Homes, which I love because I get to serve my local community in a practical way. In this capacity, I'm working on restorative justice, seeking creative ways to steward land for good. You can find more about that on my real estate page, larissaislandhomes.com.
Formerly, I was a full-time college minister with an organization called InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. I have over 20 years of experience with team leadership development, fundraising and fundraising coaching, leading workshops and retreats, and one-on-one coaching.
I'm Chinese American woman, raised in Hawaii for the majority of my life. Steve and I have 4 multiracial kids, including our youngest son, who is adopted. We also have a labrador retriever named Pono (full name Ho'oponopono) who thinks everyone is his best friend.
Other things that I love: co-hosting a podcast with Steve, reading, sometimes writing when I have the energy, baking and cooking, drinking wine, hosting people for meals in our home, and using the Bullet Journal to get all the life stuff done.
I believe in the power of storytelling. You can find my writing in these places:
- Spiritual Journey blog - spiritual formation resources
- The Larissa Monologues - my rarely-updated personal blog (mostly about family, life, and food)
- The Huffington Post
- 100 Days of Memoirs - in 2015 I wrote a short memoir for 100 consecutive days
- The Junia Project - a guest post titled "My Journey as a Female Preacher"
